Twilight Theatre Company: From Edinburgh Fringe to US stages
The brief
Twilight Theatre Company, from New York, brought two shows to the Fringe, including Polishing Shakespeare by Brian Dykstra, inspired by the true story of translating Shakespeare into modern English. The aim was to secure reviews and increase visibility among theatre critics, and ideally generate interest from US theatres for future touring.
Our role
We engaged with theatre press to secure preview coverage, positioning the show within the context of other Bard-related Fringe performances. We cultivated relationships with literary bloggers to build some pre-festival buzz.
During the run, we worked with the critics to ensure that a steady stream of reviews were published.
Polishing Shakespeare at The Assembly Rooms.
The results
Polishing Shakespeare received significant critical attention during the run, with ten published reviews. Early coverage included reviews from All Edinburgh Theatre and The Edinburgh Reporter. Later, British Theatre Guide, Theatre Weekly, ThreeWeeks Edinburgh, The Scotsman, and Plays International & Europe also published reviews.
Following the successful Fringe premiere, the show toured to Ithaca later in the year, and opens in Catskill, NY in 2025.
